Professor Tom Buckley MSc, FIBMS, FAMLS

Head of Microbiology Irish Equine Centre Laboratory’s.

Tom was educated at Presentation College in Bray, Dublin Institute of Technology and University College Dublin. He joined the Irish Equine Centre in 1984 and has been Head of Microbiology since 1987. Tom is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Limerick in Equine Health and Disease and has been involved in the Equine Science course at the University of Limerick since its inception and was appointed Adjunct Professor of Life Sciences in 2007. 

 

Mr Kelly Veterinary Surgeon MVB MRCVS. Qualified from University College Dublin and worked in a large animal practice both in Ireland and the UK. He subsequently moved to England, where he worked in an equine and small animal practice, before moving to America, learning hip replacement surgery and exotics, including avian and reptile medicine and surgery. He regularly attends the Zoo, where he looks after animals such as eagles, meerkats, monkeys, and tigers, along with many other species.

He specialises in laparoscopic/keyhole surgery, cruciate ligament repair surgery, and orthopaedics.

Helen De Barra, Medical Scientist MBA, MSC, FAMLS. HDip RISK MANAGEMENT. Diploma SHWWW.

Helen has over 20 years’ experience in veterinary and clinical laboratory diagnostic microbiology.

She is a biochemistry graduate from UCC with a master's in microbiology from UCD. She is actively involved in occupational health and safety and risk management. She has a Dip in SHWWW from UCD and a HDip in Risk Management (Healthcare). She is visiting lecturer at UCD, TCD, NUIG and the DIT on Microbiology, Biosafety, Risk Management and occupational health and safety.
