Karidox is a yellow solution containing doxycycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the tetracycline class. It is effective against various bacterial infections and certain parasites, making it suitable for treating conditions like bacterial pneumonia, acne, chlamydia, Lyme disease, cholera, typhus, and syphilis.

Key Uses:

  • Licensed for Use in: Chickens, pigeons, and pigs, primarily for respiratory infections.
  • E. coli Treatment: Should only be used after susceptibility testing due to documented resistance in chickens.

Administration Precautions:

  • Handling: Wear gloves, protective clothing, and safety glasses to avoid contact with skin and eyes. The product may cause irritation and has the potential to induce allergic reactions or photosensitivity.
  • In Case of Contact: Rinse skin or eyes immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice if needed.
  • Avoid: Smoking, eating, or drinking while handling the product.

Adverse Reactions:

  • Possible allergic reactions and gastrointestinal disturbances if treatment is prolonged. Discontinue use if adverse reactions occur.

Use During Pregnancy and Lactation:

  • Not recommended for use in pregnant or lactating animals.

Drug Interactions:

  • Absorption of doxycycline can be hindered by high levels of calcium, iron, magnesium, or aluminum in the diet. Avoid concurrent administration with antacids, kaolin, iron preparations, and other bactericidal antibiotics. The product should not be mixed with alkaline solutions or milk replacers.

Management Practices:

  • Combine antibiotic treatment with good management practices, such as hygiene, ventilation, and appropriate stocking densities, for effective disease control.
