Symptoms of Paratyphoid
Infected birds commonly show the following signs:
- Loss of condition and body weight
- Green, slimy droppings
- Limping or awkward flight
- Swollen joints in wings and legs
- Infertility
- Twisted necks
- Blindness in one eye
- High mortality rate
Treatment and Prevention
Baytril Oral 10% is a recommended treatment option effective against Salmonella (paratyphoid), E. coli, and other specific intestinal infections. This combination medication helps to limit the development of bacterial resistance and is generally well-tolerated, even during molting and for young birds (squeakers).
Dosage and Usage Recommendations:
- Treat infected birds with Baytril Oral 10% for the first 7 days.
- Quarantine suspected cases immediately.
- Thoroughly disinfect or burn out the infected lofts to minimize the risk of spreading.
In addition to Baytril Oral 10%, other veterinary medicines may be effective against paratyphoid, and a veterinarian can advise on the best treatment plan.
